Ah-Beetz!

I could eat pizza every day. How about you? What is YOUR favorite pizza pie?

Talk to me about pizza. Better yet, bring me a slice. Or 4.

As David Portnoy says, “one bite, everyone knows the rules!”

I could eat pizza every day. Hot or cold. I don’t think I’m really picky about my pizza. Wait. Maybe. A little. Ok, I’m REALLY picky about my pizza. 😉

The crust needs to be strong enough to handle the toppings. Nothing flimsy. It doesn’t have to be thick – just STURDY.

The sauce can’t be too sweet. Nah.

Not too many toppings. There needs to be a nice balance. Can I hold a slice with one hand? Without the guts falling all over the place?

And let’s talk about the guts.

Favorite toppings?

I guess that depends on my mood.   Veggies are so good on a pizza. How about onions and peppers? The peppers have to be cooked and NOT from a can. Ugh, that can be gross. Mushrooms? Yes!

WHITE CLAM PIZZA! Oh my, that is a good pie.  Actually, one of my favorites. And anchovies! OMGOODNESS the salt content makes a slice of pizza SING! Most people I’ve talked to have never tried anchovies on their pizza, but you must try it!

So what about the meat lovers out there? Love me some pepperoni and sausage – just watch the grease. Soggy pizza sucks. For many years my family ordered the B.O.M.B. which stands for Bacon, Onion & Meatball. DE-LISH.

No pineapple. Nope.

And I must mention grandma pizza. Lou’s grandmother Concetta would make this pizza constantly. I’ve tried making it over the years and I get close to Concetta’s recipe. The crust has to be just right. Sauce with some parmesan. No mozzarella.

One of my favorite pizza places is Pepe’s Pizza in Connecticut. There are many locations – check one out if you live in the area! And during the summer months they offer a “Fresh Tomato Pie.” And if you have the time to stop in to your favorite pizza place and eat a fresh pie out of the oven, DO IT. Ordering a pizza and eating that pizza out of a cardboard box is NOT the way to fully experience a good slice. That box steams the pizza further and you don’t get the true taste of how the pizza was meant to be! Go INTO a pizza place, sit, order and eat a slice right out of the oven. GAME CHANGER.

Do you make homemade pizza? What are YOUR favorite toppings? And what/where is your favorite pizza restaurant?

It’s been a while since I’ve made homemade pizza. I really have to do that again soon!
