- 1 lb of ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 lb of mushrooms, sliced (any kind you like)
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of beef broth
- 1 cup of whipping cream
- 1/3 cup of sour cream
- 3 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp of salt, adjust to taste
- 1 tsp of black pepper, adjust to taste
- 8 oz of egg noodles
directions
- Preheat a deep skillet over medium-high heat with olive oil.
- Add onions, cooking them down a bit to get them softened.
- Add ground beef and stir to break down the beef into tiny pieces.
- Add garlic and stir together as they continue to cook.
- Meanwhile, fill a large pot with salted water and bring to a rapid boil. Cook egg noodles at a boil until tender yet firm to the bite, 7 to 9 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Add sliced mushrooms and saute for another 5 minutes.
- Add flour and stir until fully incorporated. You don’t want to see any lumps of flour.
- Add 1 cup beef broth, 1 cup whipping cream, 3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 tsp salt, and 1 tsp black pepper and bring it to a simmer.
- Turn the heat to low and simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Remove from the heat and add in sour cream.
- Stir to combine everything together and season to taste if needed.
- Serve over noodles OR add the cooked egg noodles to your beef mixture and stir.
- Sprinkle parsley on top of your masterpiece and you are ready to serve! And EAT!
notes
So you like mushrooms? Add more. My daughter LOVES mushrooms so I typically at least DOUBLE the amount of mushrooms to this recipe. And of course you can add more beef or noodles, depending on how many people you are serving. More people at the table? Just double everything. The great part about this recipe is that you add the noodles at the end. I’ve seen similar recipes that add the noodles early and you can end up with soggy noodles that soak up way too much of the broth.
You can also add more sour cream when serving this as well. I usually just leave the sour cream container on the counter or the table and my eager eaters can just add more to their plates/bowls if they want. It’s ALL goodness!
