Stargazer Lilies

Stargazer lilies are a popular hybrid lily variety known for their striking, fragrant, upward-facing blossoms that resemble stars, hence the name!

I don’t remember the first time I got a whiff of these stinky, beautiful flowers, but I know it was prior to my wedding to Lou back in 2000. For some reason I found these beauties, and they HAD to be in my bridal bouquet.

Since then, they have always remained my favorite flower. Every time Lou and I go shopping at Stew Leonard’s, he buys me a few bunches to smell up our kitchen. The smell is distinct and lasts a long time! He never forgets to look for those lilies for me wherever and whenever he gets the chance.

Yeah, they can make a mess. Those orange stamens stain things, so you need to be careful of that (remove the stamens to keep the flower living longer) and the lilies are toxic to cats, but we don’t have cats, so we are good!

I’m tickled that our daughter Grace likes these flowers as well – I need to send her some more often! Her beautiful Stargazer lily artwork is below, as is a quick draw I whipped up as a card sent to accompany a college care-package to her a couple of years ago. All of our kids are artsy! I’ll share more of their talents in other blog posts, for sure.

Stargazer lilies come in a few different colors, but get the pink ones. You will be so glad you did!
