Fresh, simple ingredients  –  pantry staples come together for rich, homemade flavor.

  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 head green cabbage, chopped
  • 3 medium carrots, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt (plus more to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper (plus more to taste)
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes (with juices)
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

3. Brown the Ground Beef

  • Add ground beef to the pot along with paprika, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1 teaspoon black pepper.
  • Cook until the beef is browned and crumbled, about 8 minutes.

 

4. Deglaze and Build the Broth

  • Pour in beef broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.
  • Stir in the diced tomatoes (with juice), tomato sauce, water, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, and bay leaf.
